I believe that one of the biggest parts of buying a car is finding someone you trust and want to work with. I have met many great sales people, who I can tell straight out, they are a joy to work with and I have met many sales people I wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy.
I think that like any business, finding someone you trust completely is a key part of buying a vehicle. Most people get wrapped up into price and discounts, the bigger the discount the better. Not necessarily. If someone has over priced their vehicle by $5000, and gives you a $3000 discount, you feel good, but you still overpaid. Sometimes people say, “Well, I got it for cost”. Used cars are purchased by the used car managers of dealerships, and they are humans as well, they make mistakes. Sometimes a dealership will buy, what they consider a great vehicle for a great price, only to get back to the dealer to find out they have to put thousands of dollars into it to make it safe. Now this car is not a great deal, so they sell it at cost to get rid of it. To be able to ask you sales person if they think it’s a great deal and trusting them is something that goes a huge distance. I find that people can often tell if they trust someone, but they don’t trust themselves to make that decision. I only deal with people I trust; this goes a long way after the sale.
I have walked away from dealerships on multiple occasions because the person I was dealing with was just not someone I was willing to trust with $30,000 of my own money, let alone a client’s money.
